Society Hill Veterinary Hospital has been located on the corner of Second and Lombard Streets since 1969 and AAHA accredited since 1989. Here at the Hill, we understand the role that your companion has in your and your family’s lives. Our goal is to help provide you with the health care and preventive care support your companion deserves and needs throughout their lifetime. As pet owners ourselves, we understand that we have the responsibility to provide you the most current medical services available and direct you when your companion needs advanced care. We are grateful to our long-term clients and welcome new clients daily allowing us to continue serving those 4-legged friends in our community.

I wanted to hold off on a medication and he was not pushy at all, instead let me know it was readily available if I decided it was needed and said to me “I always trust a mother’s intuition” which is reassuring and made me feel like we were on the same team. He also developed a skin rash that eventually became infected, and started yo lose weight.Up to a week ago he was under the care of another Vet Hospital in Philadelphia, where the doctor for over a month dismissively kept telling us to just feed him rice/chicken and that the rash was normal for a puppy.Well, fortunately my mother's instinct prevailed and I contacted Society Hill Vet Hospital (strongly recommended to me by other dog owners in the neighborhood) and there we met Dr. Coates, young doctor enthusiastic and caring, he listened humbly to all of my concerns and visited Max (in front of me (at the other vet hospital they would just take him behind doors and then the doctor would meet with us to tell us that everything was ok) Dr. Coates professionally addressed the situation, upon my request to have final answers he ordered lab tests and skin test yet without adding extra expensive exams but just starting with the minimal to rule out major causes for Max's poor health status.Contrary to the other Dr at the other Vet Hospital that was definitely on an ego trip, Dr Coates immediately told me to stop the chicken/rice diet and put Max on Hydrolyzed Protein food as he suspected a Protein Intolerance. He also addressed the skin rash that turns out being a serious infection that requires antibiotic treatments for 7weeks!!!Well, today the results of Max's lab tests plus cytology skin test came back negative, it is safe to say that indeed it was just a protein intolerance as Dr. Coates suspected from very start.It has been only a few days, Max seems already healthier and the rash is almost already cleared out, his poop is finally normal for the first time and he generally seem more energetic and thankful to not be fed that rice/chicken anymore previously and superficially suggested by the other vet doctor.We have no words to describe Dr. Coates knowledge and professional attitude, his sincere care for animals and his humanity show how much he loves his job and for sure these qualities will lead him to have brilliant career,Dr. Coates, Max will keep coming to see you!The staff at Society Hill Vet Hospital made us feel at home, very personable and genuinely caring, and part of their big family!Silvana R.Silvana R. ★★★★★ I love Dr.C and the staff at SVC.
